In the first half of the year, during Term Two, four of the 9-10 Drama class students competed in the Launceston Drama Competitions. They entered the duologue section which is a script for two people. The students were Cleo, Anika, Bridget and Isabella. They did an excellent job of learning and performing their scripts and gained some excellent feedback from the judge. Well done girls, you should be very proud of yourselves!
Recently the Year 1-2 classes created a piece of physical theatre by taking the much loved story of Hairy McLary from Donaldson’s Dairy. They re-created the pages and told the story to the audience, they did a wonderful job.
The Kindergarten class are creating a piece inspired by the picture book Giraffes Can’t Dance which will be ready to perform in a few weeks. The 3-4 classes are working on an adaptation of Waltzing Matilda which they will also be showing soon. The 5-6 classes are working on rehearsing an original scene in groups and the 7-8 Drama class have just been to see Launceston’s College production of Be More Chill.
And finally we ended term two on a massively high note by performing in Launceston Can Dance with four other schools. Five teachers from Tasdance came and spent five weeks rehearsing with students from Years 3-4 and 5-6. It was an incredible night dancing on the stage at the Princess Theatre to a huge audience.

Over the past few weeks, students in Year 3-4C have been introduced to the intriguing world of states of matter. They've been learning how matter can change from one state to another through various processes such as freezing, melting, evaporation, and condensation.
To solidify (pun intended!) their understanding, our future scientists got their hands messy with a thrilling experiment involving Oobleck. What is Oobleck, you might ask? It's a substance that behaves both like a liquid and a solid depending on how it's handled. It's made from a simple mixture of corn-starch and water, but the magic happens when it's touched.
In groups, students mixed the corn-starch and water to create their own batches of oobleck. The moment of truth arrived as they dipped their fingers into the mixture. The oobleck oozed through their fingers like a liquid, yet when they squeezed it, it turned firm like a solid. Laughter and amazement filled the classroom as they poked, prodded, and played with this extraordinary substance.
We are excited to continue our journey to find out more about states of matter.

To start our Fitness and Wellbeing subject this term, the students have been looking into to what it means to be healthy and the promotion of health and fitness.
The students have been learning some primary education games to promote health and wellness in the primary years. From here they have been thriving at the opportunity to then deliver, instruct and encourage the 3-4 A PE class during these games as a way of promoting physical activity. The leadership and communication skills they have exhibited has been really pleasing.
We will be later looking at the importance of nutrition and lifelong physical activity opportunities for the students.
Catering had their mid-year cooking exam the week before the school holidays and pulled out all the stops creating a main course and dessert or drink.
I am amazed how much skill and determination this group has and how much they have learned this first half of the year. Congratulations team!!

I wanted to express our appreciation to all our volunteers throughout the school community. We are really blessed to have people who give of their time to assist in the canteen, in classrooms and on committees. We can never have too many people assisting so if you are able to help Kathleen during the day in the canteen or in your child’s classroom, we encourage you to contact the relevant people.
We have had a few near misses in the carpark and in the bus lane in recent weeks. Firstly please use the allocated drop off area if you are unable to stay and supervise your child getting to their class. If you are using the carpark that is between the hall and the kindergarten please remember that this is our main thoroughfare into the school for vehicles. You need to park your car, supervise your children and ensure that they walk across the marked crossings to the footpaths. Please don’t allow them to run out across the bus lane or through the car parks.
This week is Science Week. There are some great activities that are available through our school but also through the QVMAG. The topic is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. One aspect of this that has been in the news recently is Artificial Intelligence. This will be a big area of growth and something that children can explore to understand its potential.
We had a great assembly today celebrating plenty of successes and achievements primarily focussed on student learning. It is always pleasing to see students who have worked hard to change or improve learning behaviours and share their success. We also recognised those students who have had attendance of 97% or more across the school. We wanted to recognise and reaffirm how important attendance is to future success.
We are working to get some graphics and further images available now that the Contemporary Classroom and Safer Bathrooms work has commenced. We had Simon Wood, MP, visit last week to inspect the works and the vision for the projects. He was joined by our three Community Liaison SRC members, Marissa, Stacey and Jess along with Karin Denehy (Student Leader Coordinator) and Kate Green (AST).

Our students have been fantastic ambassadors for the school in a range of contexts: all our 9-10 and 7-8 drama students at the LC production “Be More Chill” and as audience members for companies coming in and making presentations. Our 5-6 students and student leaders at 5-6 sport have been great with their sportsmanship but we are looking forward to some improved weather on Fridays for them.
