On 25th of April, ANZAC Day, I participated in the ANZAC Day parade held in Launceston CDB. I am part of the Unit 62 Army Cadet Group. Army cadets is an inclusive youth development organisation where you learn survival skills as a team. The parade started at 11am but we had to be there ready at 9am. While we were waiting, we fixed all our blousings (uniform) and hats. We then moved down to the road to where our rows that we were walking in were. My brother, Shawn, was holding the flag, he started to walk first and then we followed. When we got to the memorial place we started to stand in position. Our cadet unit stood there for half an hour. We felt sick standing there for ages but got to sit down for a short amount of time before having to stand there for another half hour. After the ceremony we put our flowers on the memorial rock then we took a picture and went home. I enjoyed being at the parade and being able to participate at such an important occasion with my friends.

On the last day of term 1 we were lucky enough to have our Colour Fun Run. The senior student leaders did an amazing job to get it up and running within the term. There is a lot of organising and they should be congratulated for their hardwork in making it a success.
All grades got to participate in the colourful event. The Kinders had no idea what they were in for as they ran around the course getting squirted with colour and water. The laughs heard from them clearly showed how much fun they had.
Although we didn't get as many students fundraising this year, we hope that we have at least raised enough money to buy a treadmill for the fitness room.
Please remember to order your prizes (if you raised money) online by April 30th. If you have cash please bring it to the office along with what prizes you would like and it will be added to the order.
All information on prizes is in the letter send home in term 1.
Thank you for another fun event.

Late last term, a team of nearly forty Lilydale primary school athletes represented the school at the Tamar Primary School Sports Associations annual athletics carnival. The team was selected based on performance at the Term 4 2020 school athletics carnival.
The team performed magnificently, both in their own events and covering for other students who were absent on the day. A huge congratulations to the following students who have been selected to represent the TPSSA at the upcoming state carnival:
- Maddison
- Austin
- Coby
- Cale
- Cooper
- Daisy
- Kaiden
- Charlie
- Bailey
- Jade
- Kade
- Bede
- Tully
More information will be sent home with students in the coming days.
Finally, a massive thanks to Ms Heather Styles and Miss Chloe Brown for their fantastic coaching, team management and organisation on the day.

We warmly welcome all members of the school community back to Term 2, and trust that the extended break was enjoyed. An early highlight to the term has been the ANZAC services held on Friday. The P-6 service was hosted by a group of Junior Student Leaders and Peer Mentors: Chontelle, Olivia, Addison and Kiara . Our 7-10 Sector service was hosted by 5 of our Senior Student Leaders: Broady, Liam, Arthur, Merissa, and Brydee. Our students showed great respect and solemnity as we honoured and remembered those who have served our country, and reflected on their sacrifices.

A range of learning experiences were provided in classrooms to strengthen students’ understanding, and Mrs Louise Rookledge gave a presentation to Grade 3-4s and shared some of her memorabilia.

On Sunday, Grade 10 student Steven Torster spoke at the Lilydale community ANZAC Service, showing great respect and courage.

We have a number of school calendar events to keep us busy this term. North East Cup will recommence for students in Grades 7 to 10, with their first training session being held this Friday, 30th April. Next week, a number of our Agriculture students will be attending Agfest, as well as participating in some events for the first time.
In Week 4, we will commence annual NAPLAN testing for students in grades 3, 5, 7 and 9. These tests provide teachers with valuable information about student learning needs to inform our classroom programs, and to enable us to provide targeted support and extension. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or concerns around the NAPLAN assessments.
As the weather rapidly turns colder, and we enter the ‘Cold and Flu’ season, it is a timely reminder to ensure we are all responsible around our health and hygiene practices. It is important that we are vigilant and alert to cold and flu symptoms, and get tested for Covid-19 if you or your child have symptoms. Students should stay at home until symptoms have passed, even if a Covid test is negative. To keep our school safe, we are continuing with increased cleaning and providing soap and sanitiser. Restrictions to large gatherings still apply, and parents and visitors may enter classrooms for brief visits.

Here's a snippet of an article that has appeared in the Department of Education's "Learning News" written by the Deputy Secreaty of Learning Trudy Pearce.
Apparently our very own Flynn was the highlight of the day with his amazing speech.
