Lilydale’s annual Athletics Carnival is being held on the school oval. Kinder – Year 6 is on Tuesday, 5 March and the Year 7 – Year 10 carnival is on Monday, 4 March. Students are required to attend as per the Department of Education attendance guidelines.
We can have spectators attend this year’s carnivals, which is great. Visitors are required to sign in upon arrival. We heavily encourage spectators to watch each event from the spectator's viewing area.
When students arrive to school, they are required to attend Home Group as normal. Students will have their attendance taken and then will move directly to the school oval in readiness for important announcements for the day’s events.
The format of the carnival is a tabloid. Students will move around events in Year groups e.g. Year 4, Year 8.
Students will be required to bring additional food to maintain their energy levels and lots of water to ensure they remain hydrated for the duration of the day. The school canteen will be in operation from 11.55am to 12.25pm and items will need to be pre purchased through the QKR app. There will also be a barbeque running with sausages for $2.
Students are reminded to dress in their house colours – Red for Maralinga and Blue for Corinna. If students intend to dress up, they must do so in a manner that doesn’t impede their participation.
Students are also encouraged to wear a hat, sunglasses, apply sunscreen regularly and utilise the shade provided. Sunscreen will be readily available from Year supervisors and event staff. Students should also bring warm clothing for changing weather conditions.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office or the HPE Staff.

The committee meets approximately 2 times per school term on the first or second Monday of the month. All members of the School Association are welcome to attend meetings, it is a great way to find out what is happening in the school.
If you need to get in contact with members of the School Association, please contact the school office on 6395 0100. Thank you.
Thank you to all those families who have taken the personal approach to ring, text or email issues that they have identified in our school community. Having this information and being able to act on it quickly certainly makes it easier to deal with things. If you have feedback about the school, for teachers, senior staff or myself please get in contact through our communication channels.
Our reading programs were share with the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Improvement Coach for Lilydale on their recent visit last week. Both were keen to know more about the work we are doing in this space which will be mirrored across the system over the next year. At Lilydale, we are ahead of the expectations and have many learnings from our work over the past 18 months. We are excited with the professional learning some of our staff have been able to access during January which will enable them to further increase our range of Tier Two support.
The athletics carnivals are happening on Monday and Tuesday and we are excited to have our community in the school again. We welcome your attendance and support but would ask that when spectating that you stay in the designated areas.
As we mentioned in the previous newsletter safeguarding of students continues to be a key focus for ALL government agencies. As such there are increased expectations for school relating to this. Thank you to those people who have completed the Mandatory Reporting training module so that they can step into the classroom as a rostered helper or assist in the canteen. We will be providing support and access to people who wish to undertake this training through QR codes, access to ICT resource in the Online Access Centre or through the library after school. This will also be included as part of the school’s Risk Management plan.
Students have been very supportive of our situation whilst we wait for the hand over of the new classrooms. Thank you to those people who came for a sneak peek at our open afternoon. It is wonderful to have so many people come into the school to share the learning journey that their child/ren are on. A big thanks to the members of the Lions Club who again did a great job with the Sausage Sizzle.
IN a term with lots of interruptions we would strongly encourage your to make sure that students attend every day they can and stay in good routines and learning habits. Many thanks to those families who are committed to their childs learning.
A reminder that Wednesday, 28 February is a student free day.

Safeguarding Training In Our Schools - REMINDER
We all have a role to play in keeping children and young people safe.
This year, there is important training that anyone who works with children or young people must complete. This includes all our volunteers and service providers.
The training is compulsory under new laws designed to better safeguard children and young people in Tasmania.
It will help you understand what to do if you believe a child or young person is or may be being harmed, and to make sure you are doing all you can to prevent this from happening. The training will also tell you what you must report under the new laws.
This simple, online training must be done as soon as possible, and you will need to complete it before you work with any children and young people this year.
Once completed, you will receive a certificate, which you can save.
To complete your training, simply visit Safeguarding Training.
Thank you for leading the way in caring for our children and young people safe so that they can focus on living bright lives with positive futures.
